Working Title:

Inter-organisational trust: exploring the role of asymmetries of information

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of information dynamics in the establishment of inter-organisational trust and security in electronic commerce. The research approaches this theme from a market perspective using economic theory to understand the impact of asymmetry of information and possible countermeasures.
This research takes a mixed methodology method of inquiry. In the first stage of the empirical work we conduct interviews with managers responsible for making risk decisions on inter-organisational transactions. The aim of the interviews is to gather information to help build the software for the experimentation used in the second stage and to gather data about what and how information is used during the decision making process. We then create a software model of the environment and context following a quasi-experimentation methodology. We request managers to make decisions based on different levels of information (quantity and quality of information) and risk. This provides a better understanding of the relationship between information and trust.
