Frederick
Wamala (BLIS, PGD Computer Science and MSc ADMIS) is a PhD candidate
in Information Systems attached to the LSE Computer Security Research
Centre (CSRC). He specialises in secure electronic commerce, specifically
in policies, practices and architectures for large secure systems
such as Public Key Infrastructures (PKI). His doctoral research
focuses on the impact of PKI on two distributed global organisations.
Large global organisations run diversified businesses in numerous
jurisdictions under localised structures. As such, there is often
a lack of fit between the work practices and social relations of
the host division and the institutional logic embedded in universal
PKI solutions. He argues that the resolution of these contradictions
rests on controlling organisational politics as much as technical
fixes.
Frederick previously
worked on CSRC projects focused on financial regulation and the
control of money laundering in the Internet era. He has also drafted
and evaluated security policies based on BS7799/ISO 17799. He has
been a Teaching Assistant for MSc students in the LSE Information
Systems Department for two years and a member of the LSE IT/Network
support team for three years. Frederick is a member of EEMA (European
Forum for Electronic Business) and other professional associations.
